You will hear a woman giving information about a cooking competition.

Woman:   The School Chef Competition happens every year, and it’s a great way for school students to show what they can do in the kitchen! It’s for everyone aged 12 to 15, and you enter the competition in a team. The idea is to think of a dish to serve in a school café.

The competition is in two parts. First you must email us a recipe idea. We need those by 2nd June. We’ll look at them all by 4th June. We think about 50 teams will enter, but only eight can go through to the cooking competition. If your idea is chosen, we’ll let you know by email.

We will have the cooking part of the competition at the university. They have plenty of space for us there. Oh – and one piece of exciting news – the person who is going to choose the winners this year is top chef John Wright. That’s W-R-I-G-H-T. Find out about him on the internet today!

There are great prizes for all the teams that cook. These will include cookbooks, money and T-shirts. Good luck, everyone – fill in the form on our website today!

Narrator:   You will hear a boy telling his friend about another friend’s birthday meal.

Richard:   Hi, Nina, it’s Richard here. I’m phoning to let you know the details about Jason’s birthday meal. Mum’s booked us a table at Roberto’s restaurant – we all like eating there. As you know, Jason’s birthday is on Friday, but he’s going away for the weekend, so the meal will be on Thursday. It will be dinner, so in the evening, of course. We wanted to book for seven thirty, but we could only get a table for earlier, at six forty-five. I hope that’s all right for you. Mum says it’s £20 each – that’s for a starter, main course and dessert. It’s a special price for our group – three courses usually cost £25. The address of the restaurant is 74 Yardley Street. That’s Y-A-R-D-L-E-Y. It’s the restaurant across the road from the museum, and next to the theatre. Let me know if you have any questions about any of this. Bye.
