Father: Sandy, do you remember the family we met on holiday in Austria…?
Sandy: Yes, they have a boy, right? Karl. He’s 13 like me…
Father: That’s right. Well, they’re coming to England next week. They’ve never been here so I want to plan something fun for them. What do you think?
Sandy: Well, they must spend a day in London! They could start the day by going on a tour bus around the city. Then they could go to the theatre or one of the many parks?
Father: Do you think the boy will like that? How about going to a museum?
Sandy: Actually, I found it a bit boring.
Father: But everyone visits museums on holiday!
Sandy: I think you should choose something outdoors, like a trip to the coast. Karl loves windsurfing.
Father: I’m not sure his parents like windsurfing though. Maybe I could drive them all to the countryside.
Sandy: Why not… It’s very relaxing so I’m sure they’ll like it.
Father: Or maybe I should just call them and ask?
Sandy: No. Let’s write a list of things they could do and then email it to them. They can choose what they’d would prefer to do.
Father: Good idea!

A: Hey, I didn’t see you when the film ended yesterday. Where were you?
B: I asked the teacher if I could leave before the end.
A: Why? What happened? Was the film so bad?
B: That’s not the reason I left. I had a terrible headache. The teacher phoned my mum and told her to pick me up from the cinema.

A: Did you go to the basketball match yesterday?
B: Yes. It wasn’t an exciting match though…
A: Well, at least our team won. We didn’t play so badly, especially your brother.

A: I hope his leg is better soon. We need him for the next match!

A: I know, too many pages! I didn’t really like it, to be honest. And then I didn’t understand the ending.
B: Really? I guessed the ending right away. The story is pretty much the same as lots of others I’ve read.
19 You will hear two friends talking about a computer game. The girl is talking to the boy about it because
A: Hi Rob, you know the computer game you lent me?
B: Sure, do you have it with you?
A: I don’t, actually. My sister saw it while I was putting it in my schoolbag. She took it to play it this afternoon. I know I had to give it back to you today, but can I keep it until Saturday?
B: OK, but don’t forget please. I want to play it with my cousin when he comes on Sunday.
20 You will hear two friends talking about afternoon lessons. What is the boy learning to do?
A: How are the tennis lessons going?
B: Actually, I stopped a few weeks ago. I didn’t really like it so I changed to something I enjoy more.
A: I guess it’s about chess.
B: Yes, right. You really know me. I’m not so interested in sport. I prefer things like reading, playing the guitar or watching films. So, I decided to try chess.
A: Well, I think I’d prefer to learn a new sport, but of course we’re all different.
