Listening Strategy
In English, words with more than one syllable have the stress on one of the syllables. This means that the syllable is louder than the others. Being familiar with word stress makes it easier to recognise words when you hear them.

Karl Rita, what do you think about school uniforms? Do you think they’re necessary?
Rita Um, yes I do, Karl. The idea is that all the students are the same with a uniform. I think that’s a good thing. Karl Hmmm, I’m not so sure. The students in my class really don’t like it. They want to choose their own clothes. I kind of understand them, really.
