Dad: How was school today, Lily?
Lily: It was really interesting, Dad! We talked about the Olympics. Did you know that some people want to add eSports and Mind sports to the Summer games?
Dad: Eh? I know what the Olympics are. But eSports? Mind sports? What are they?
Lily: Don’t worry, Dad! I didn’t know what they were until today. eSports are video games, and mind sports are things like chess and some other board games and card games. Ones that make you think hard.
Dad: I see! Well, I’m not sure, Lily. The Olympic Games are for sport, and surely video games and chess aren’t sport! You sit down to play both of those, and you don’t use your body at all.
Lily: But sport isn’t just about being fit and strong, Dad. You have to use your brain as well if you want to win.
Dad: I suppose so. I play football and it’s really important to think about what you’re doing when you play. But it’s also about running and kicking, and how well you move the ball.
Lily: Well, lots of chess champions and video game stars work hard to stay fit you know. They know it’s good for their brains to be fit.
Dad: Well, maybe. But there are lots of important chess competitions already. It doesn’t need to be in the Olympics.
Lily: But the other competitions aren’t as famous as the Olympics, are they? An Olympic medal is very special.
Dad: That’s true, I suppose.
Lily: eSports and mind sports are already in the Asian games you know. I’m sure they’ll be in the Olympics in ten years’ time.
Dad: Mmm, I don’t agree. I don’t think they’ll ever be in the Olympics.

Matt: That’s right, it’s on Wednesdays at seven o’clock every week. I know you’re busy on Tuesdays.
Emma: Oh great. I’d like to try a class.
Matt: Ah, but you can’t book just one class. You have to book five of them.
Emma: That’s OK. How much is it?
Matt: We pay £40 for five lessons, but you’ll get your first class free. So you’ll pay £32 if you come.
Emma: Right. So who’s the teacher?
Matt: She’s called Tanya Maple. She was a professional golfer when she was younger, and she’s a great teacher.
Emma: And she teaches at the sports centre?
Matt: She does. We practise at a special area at the back of the sports centre.
Emma: So I can walk there really easily from home.
Matt: Yes, I know, it’s perfect for you. I usually go on my bike.
Emma: What do I have to wear for the classes?
Matt: No special clothes really – I play in shorts and a T-shirt. The only thing I bought for the class is a special glove for playing golf. It really helps.
Emma: And what about the clubs and the balls?
Matt: We use kit from the sports centre.
Emma: OK. How do I join the class? Do I have to fill in a form online before I go to it?
Matt: I think you can, but I just emailed the teacher, and she said ‘Come to a class’.
Emma: OK, I’ll do the same. Have you got her address?
Matt: It’s on my phone. I’ll send it to you.
Emma: Great. Thanks, Matt.
