Alex: Hey, Eva. You don’t look good.
Eva: No. Not happy.
Alex: Why not? What’s up?
Eva: There’s someone at work … He’s called Neil, and he’s a real problem.
Alex: Why? What does he do?
Eva: He talks all the time. He never stops! He talks to me; he talks to other people; he talks on the phone. Sometimes he doesn’t talk. But when he doesn’t talk—he sings! It drives me crazy!
Alex: Oh, no, that’s really bad!
Eva: Yes, and that’s not all. He eats snacks all the time, too—chocolate, cheese, things like that. I have sandwiches and fruit for lunch, but he has hot food. There’s a snack bar near the office. He goes there every day and brings fried chicken and French fries into the office for lunch. It really smells!
Alex: Do you talk to him about this?
Eva: Well, that’s the problem. He never listens. He thinks he’s fantastic, and he doesn’t listen to anyone else.

Jane: Hi, Owen. Are you OK?
Owen: Oh, hi, Jane. No, I’m not OK.
Jane: Oh, dear. What’s the problem?
Owen: The problem is Vera.
Jane: Who’s Vera?
Owen: My brother’s girlfriend. I don’t like her.
Jane: Why not?
Owen: She comes to our apartment, but she doesn’t do anything. She reads the newspaper and watches TV. That’s all.
Jane: Oh, right. Does she have a job?
Owen: No, she doesn’t. But my brother says she has a lot of money.
Jane: She sounds OK. She reads a lot. That’s a good thing.
Owen: Hmm … maybe. But I don’t understand her. She doesn’t eat meat, fish, cheese or eggs. She always eats vegetables and pasta.
Jane: She sounds interesting. I’d like to meet her.
